Surgery Hours & Clinics

Reception is open from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and you can call in or telephone to speak to a receptionist.

Surgery Appointments

Dr Male and Dr Thompson hold surgeries from 9am to 11am and 4pm to 6pm Monday to Friday. Dr Lewis holds surgeries on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.

We stay open later on Monday evenings until 7.30pm. By appointment up to four weeks in advance

Appointments are often available the same day. We try to guarantee free appointments the next working day. You can book appointments up to 4 weeks ahead. Appointments for both doctors and nurses may be booked in person or by phone.

Senior Nurse Practitioner - Sister Whittleton - will see minor illness

Minor Injury Service        Telephone (01454) 412167  

We now offer a minor injury service. The aim is to see patients with minor injuries at the Health Centre, immediately if necessary or by appointment within a few hours. In this way patients can avoid having to go to Frenchay or Southmead A&E departments, waiting up to 4 hours  and having unnecessary X-rays and other investigations. Our service includes assessment and suturing of wounds.

Telephone Consultations

Many problems may be dealt with by phone - the doctors are usually available for telephone consultations 11.30am to 12.00pm. You can also leave a message, if you call at other times during the day, and the doctor will ring you back.

Medicals

The Practice does a wide range of medicals including: medicals for insurance companies , HGV and PSV medicals, sports medicals (including diving medicals), pre-employment and employment medicals. You do not have to be a registered patient for us to do your medical. Please telephone for further details, 01454 412167

Baby Clinic

This is held on alternate Wednesday afternoons by Dr Helen Lewis and our Health Visitor, Hilary Parkman.
 

Antenatal Clinic

The midwifery team is based at Thornbury Hospital. They can be contacted on 01454 415750. If you are pregnant, please see the doctor during normal surgery times and arrangements will then be made for midwife booking.

Cervical Smears

These are now done mainly by Sister Clare Watt, one of our practice nurses. Please make an appointment.

The Nursing Team

Practice Nurses
The practice nurses are Sister Wendy Whittleton, Sister Clare Watt, Sister Theresa Allsop and Sister Angela Symonds. We also employ a Health Care Assistant - Lin Fox.

They provide:

Diabetic checks
Asthma checks – adult and child
Blood pressure monitoring
Flu and Pneumonia immunisations
Travel Clinic and Immunisations
Medicals for insurance, employment and sports
Heart disease monitoring
Chronic chest conditions
Strokes recovery
Womens’ health service – eg contraception, smears
Health check-ups for new and current patients
Treatment of minor injuries
Phlebotomy (taking blood)
Dressings for wounds and post-operatively
Stitch removal
Ear syringing
Health promotion and general health care advice

An appointment system runs for morning and evening clinics. Please contact reception for an appointment.

Family Planning

All the doctors are fully trained in family planning. Patients requiring Emergency contraception should contact the doctor as soon as possible, including evenings and weekends. We will also see patients not registered with the practice for emergency contraception and there is no charge for this.

Minor Surgery

Appointments are available for some minor surgery procedures.
